Museum Post

While I felt that the class trip to the Museum of the Moving Image was short, it was filled with a lot of interesting exhibits. One of my favorites was the costume design area. It was filled with iconic costumes from different films/tv shows, such as a dress from the Sex and the City film to a typical Cosby sweater. The clothing picked out for films do more than just dress the actor. It helps develop and portray the essence and background of a character. An example of this was Eddie Murphy's sweater in the film Beverly Hills Cop. In the movie his character is originally from Detroit, so film researchers looked up local schools in that area and bought school sweaters to go along with character's background.

The museum also had a few interactive exhibits, including a voice-over recording studio. We got to enter an (almost) sound proof room and record voice overs from scenes in movies, like School of Rock. This experience allowed for a more hands-on approach of learning about sound recording in films.

Overall it was a fun a trip and I would definitely like to go back to see all of the exhibits we didn't have time for.
